Closing Reception and Celebration of the Calabi Gallery Era
Saturday, August 30, 3-7pm

Dear Friends,

It pains me to announce that the 16 year experience known as Calabi Gallery will be ending soon. Due to the fact that we have never turned a profit but rather endured a steady stream of huge losses, the time has come to close the brick and mortar gallery. The current show will continue until the end of August, as scheduled. After a period of transition which will include returning many consigned pieces to the artists or other owners, we will move all remaining inventory to our climate controlled warehouse. The gallery will continue as an online only venture mostly focused on the estates we represent, but also including significant works in our collection. Any of our gallery artists who wish to continue to be represented on our website are welcome to do so, but of course they may prefer to seek new venues in which to show their work. We hope to do collaborations with other galleries, pop-ups, and/or curation projects.

I will continue my work as a conservator and restorer of paintings and will also be available as a consultant to advise collectors on issues regarding their collections or potential new purchases. Camille, my faithful “right hand” since the beginning, will be going on maternity leave after we close, and may not be back as she focuses on her new baby, toddler, and family. Much of what the gallery has achieved is due to Camille’s efforts. Without her cheerful disposition, intelligence, integrity, and amazing skillset, the gallery would never have developed and survived as it has. As she transitions out, our friend and gallery artist Iva Hladis will very capably step in to fill those big shoes.

We wish to thank you all for your support, friendship, and interest in the arts. Although the gallery was not a financially lucrative business venture, I do believe that we created something special and brought some awareness of unfairly under appreciated artists, hung some great shows, and helped to build some wonderful art collections. We also hosted some incredible house concerts, poetry readings, and lectures. It was a good run, and while it broke me financially, I have no regrets. If you have any inclination to help, acquiring a work of art would be the way to do it, as soon as possible, before the moving madness begins on September 1. We are deep in debt and any purchase would be greatly appreciated.

A Closing Reception and Celebration of the Calabi Gallery Era will be held on Saturday, August 30, from 3-7pm.
