Carol Peek was born in Marin County and believes that the beauty of the local landscape influenced her decision to become an artist.  Her love of horses led her to ride the hills during her childhood, spending summers on horseback exploring the scenes she now paints.

She began her art education at UC Santa Barbara, moved on to UC Berkeley and from there went to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  Carol graduated with honors in 1987.  She has also studied at Grand Central Academy in New York CIty, the Fechin Institute in Taos, NM,  and the Scottsdale Artist’s School. In 1996 Carol also worked and studied at The Vermont Studio Center.

Upon graduation from Art Center, Carol went to work for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO.  Anxious to get back to CA and paint full-time on her own work, she returned in 1989 documenting the quickly disappearing agricultural landscape in Marin and Sonoma counties, focusing on the family farms that once covered the area.  Her calendars in the 1990’s of horses and cows from the area gave her international exposure early in her career.

Peek’s work has won numerous awards and she is currently teaching at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, the Marin Art School as well as workshops on her own.  Publication of her work includes:  Art of the West, American Artist, Southwest Art, Western Horseman, Equine Images, The Artist’s Magazine and US Art.  Several books on art, horses, and poetry also include her paintings.

Carol’s work is represented by The North Point Gallery in San Francisco, Calabi Gallery, Petaluma, CA, and Morris & Whiteside Gallery, Hilton Head, SC.
