Martina Skala was born in Prague, Czech Republic. After attending Hollar’s Graphic School, she went to Charles University in Prague where she obtained a Master’s Degree in History. At the same time, she also studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts Stage and Costume Design.

After her studies she moved to Paris, France where she worked in the movie industry as an Art Director and Set Decorator.

In 1996 she moved to Los Angeles. Her many trips to the Southwest in US introduced her to the magic of the desert which inspired her paintings.

Martina Skala now lives in Sonoma County in Northern California.
