Susan Marie Dopp began her education at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC from 1972-75. She received her BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1984, as well as her MFA in 1987.

Dopp began her teaching career at the San Francisco Art Institute Extension Program as a painting instructor in 1986. She also taught as a visiting artist at the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 1989. In 1992 Dopp taught at the Richmond Art Center, and in 1993 and 2000 at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts. In 1996 and 1998 she taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.

The Bay Area painter has won numerous awards throughout the country, including the Robert Howe Fletcher Award at the SFAI in 1984, the Artist in Residence award at the Roswell Museum and Art Center in 1988-89 and in 2007-08. The Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art Award at SFMOMA in 1988, Eureka Fellowship Award at the Fleishhacker Foundation in 1993, Yaddo Fellowship in May-June of 2004 and October of 2005, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award in 2007.

Dopp has exhibited her art in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the country, and has work in both private and public collections. She has also been featured in many prestigious art publications including Artweek, Art in America, Visions Art Quarterly, West County Times, and many more. The Hosfelt Gallery in New York and San Francisco represents her work.
